Aromatic Description: Sweet, fruity, citrus, fresh, rich, slightly balsamic

Colour/Characteristics: Green to olive-green coloured liquid.  As it ages or is exposed to light, the colour of bergamot will fade.

Main Chemical Constituents: limonene, linalyl acetate, linalool, sainene, y-terpinene, ß-pinene, α-pinene, ß-myrcene, neryl acetate

Blends Well With: clary sage, geranium, lavender, ylang ylang, jasmine, peppermint, neroli, petitgrain, frankincense, other citrus oils

Properties/Uses: Antimicrobial, antiseptic, anxiolytic, analgesic, antidepressant, antiviral, carminative, cicatrisant, deodorant, digestive, febrifuge, sedative, stomachic, tonic, vermifuge, vulnerary.  Bergamot essential oil may be used to help treat digestive issues, nausea, regulate appetite, indigestion, acne, oily complexion, insomnia, stress, nervous tension, depression, anxiety, irritability.

Energetics: Bergamot essential oil may help to promote emotional stability, while reducing irritability, frustration, moodiness, pessimism, mild depression and negative thinking.  It offers a relaxing and yet uplifting and energising quality, that can lift us when feeling flat, encouraging us to find joy, confidence and enthusiasm in our lives.

Use: Bath, massage, balms, salves, ointment, cream, direct inhalation, diffuser, oil burner, oil vaporiser.

Safety: No contraindications known.  This oil is considered phototoxic, exposure to sunlight or sunbed rays should be avoided after skin application for up to 24 hours.    Tisserand & Young recommend a maximum dermal limit of 0.4%.  They also recommend due to the limonene content, oxidation of bergamot oil should be avoided by storing in a dark, airtight container in the fridge.  Has GRAS status.
